I had the same issue, almost exactly. I had created a skin that was quite similar to the one on the left of the image, and it had the nether coat on. The other day i just opened Minecraft and it said it couldn't load character 2 (which was the character with the nether coat). I tried restarting Minecraft, I uninstalled and re-downloaded it but nothing seems to work.
