Got exactly the same message. Using Debian, java 1.9.
Got minecraft launched with java 1.9 by removing
"-XX:+UseConcMarkSweepGC -XX:+CMSIncrementalMode"
from the JVM Arguments in the Profile Editor. Launched with java 1.9 but not running well. Hoped the latest release of java might have helped. Did not at all. At the contrary.
Now starting Minecraft with java 1.8 and everything works fine again.
