This happened to me too after the 1.15 update. I have 4 huge chunks gone and am afraid to travel to favorite locations. It consumed part of my village & added part of an abandoned village to the side of it. It took all of a home/hanging gardens I was in the middle of building. Very, very sad.
I fall into these pits and respawn. My chests and beds are invisible, cannot get my items out though.
