I am having the same issue sometimes I have to close and open my inventory again to see the light blue shadow.

I was on peacefull transporting villagers. They would disappear when sent into the nether.  I ended up having to turn it to easy to transport them through the nether. I never seen the first three villagers after that may they rest in peace. Lol
