In this case, I hadn't mined any regular coal yet, and it was starting to get dark. which is why I was making charcoal. I had a different issue (reported) with the spruce wood, and I'm sure that the charcoal I made was with spruce wood as well, I didn't think there was a difference once it became charcoal.

  • No coal or torches previously created

If you say so. That user reported not being able to turn logs into planks, which I was able to do. I wasn't able to turn spruce planks into a crafting table.
