I can join servers in the "multiplayer" section, I added the hypixel server today just to make sure, I played it for 30 minutes with no problems at all so it seems like a realm issue. I also tried to delete all my java files, shader and texture files, completely delete minecraft and turn off the internet, then reinstall everything, but nothing seems to work. The game still crashes within the first 10 seconds of me opening a realm with the text "internal exception: java.io.ioexception: an existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host."
