@Trent Try deleting your META-INF folder from your minecraf.jar. This may help.
Yeah, it seems even worse in 1.6.2. A friend sent me some .class files that removed the enchanted glow from all items.

This should remove the glow which causes most of the lag. It's a quick fix until this bug can be fixed.

I am still getting this problem, anyway to fix?
@Brutally It sounds like you installed the file correctly, I have heard in some cases the file doesn't make an effect on the game. I'll try to figure it out.
