Are you sure of this? The issue does not appear in the 13w02a release for me, where the new texture system was first noted.EDIT: Updated to Java 1.6 and my issue is resolved.
I am running an Intel-based Mac (10.5.8) and having the same issues; this is not specific to PPC.
