Still an issue, Mac version 1.8 with Launcher 1.53.
Cart left on a unpowered power rail, disappeared. It's happened to me twice (once in an earlier version and again today). Both times, cart was left on an unpowered power rail. I have never seen it happen on a regular rail but I do tend to park them on unpowered power rails so can't say for certain. I walked the complete rail and no cart anywhere on it (so it wasn't moved by mob). Only seems to have happened in the last mine cart I used. (Carts other than the last one I used that were 'missing' have always been located as having been moved by mobs.)
It does not happen every time I leave a cart on an unpowered power rail and logoff.
This has happened to me in the standard world (haven't seen or tried it in nether)
The setup in which I park my mine carts and which they sometimes disappear from is:
Stone slab - unpowered power rail (where cart is parked) - normal rail - powered power rail - rest of track…
On a last note, I think but am not sure, that when I logged off both times the cart disappeared, I was significantly far away from the parked cart (multiple chunks away).
==== UPDATE: Distance is not a factor, I have had two more carts disappear in the last week, one when I logged off just 20 blocks from the cart.
