This possible fix does not work for me; Gaming Services will not open. Only solution so far to allow me to actually load and play Minecraft was to install Windows 7/8 launcher from Mojang website.

Thanks! Before you responded I nosed around Mojang's website and found the Windows 7/8 installer download and luckily that doesn't automatically update so I can at least play Minecraft once again.

How did you do that? Mojang customer service chat gave me a link to reinstall the old launcher and Minecraft but as soon as it installs it does the launcher upgrade without prompting to the Microsoft one and breaks everything.
