The reason they path find like that is, there is this mechanic in Minecraft that mobs recognized buttons as a solid block. Thats why in mob farms in minecraft include buttons so that the mobs will walk to the edge on purpose. Sorry for bad english
And if you put it like that they think there trapped and they want to escape.
