It's quite irritating, my friend and I are trying to do a challenge on Minecraft where we can only live underground, so it's a pain to make a Nether portal under the surface world in some cave and have it spit us out in goodness knows where. It usually makes another portal within 100 blocks of our original, but it is still irritating.
