I'm in the exact same situation as Guy Davies. In addition to Safari and FF on iOS I've tried Chome on iOS, Chrome on a Mac and PC along with IE11 on a PC. Cleared cookies and cache on them all. All I can get is the
"We're unable to complete your request
Microsoft account is experiencing technical problems. Please try again later."

I'm also not able to join LAN games on iOS with the Apple TV version and vice versa which is why I got the TV version of the app.
For the LAN games I've tried both iOS version 1.2 and 1.2.2
I assume the issues are connected.

Very disappointed please fix the issue
