This file shows the crafting recipe for nether brick fences is unchanged in snapshot 14w32b. (New door in background as proof)

shows the new recipe for fences.
The Recipe for all fences was changed in snapshot 14w32c. the recipe now requires four blocks of wood of the same color, and two sticks, in a similar manner to a fence gate. this was to help the game tell what color of fence it being crafted. this is entirely intentional on behalf of Mojang.
I have tested this on both creative and survival.
I presume this to be a bug, as it seems unusual for a bed (made from wood) to make a stone sound.
No worries. People make mistakes all the time 🙂
