I'm having the same issue where fullscreen isn't working when I'm playing 1.6.2, but it just goes to a blank screen that's black. If I press the rest button for a moment and click cancel on resetting the Mac it displays again, but in the small window. I can get it to go into the maximized window, however fullscreen I cannot.
The issue MC-21603 doesn't include 1.6.2 so it's not totally true to be put there.
