The comment above by @unknown turned out to be my issue. Am now able to use the latest launcher (as downloaded from the official website) and run 1.14.4 with no further issues on Gentoo. This error definitely needs better handling.

Good day.

I have two Gentoo machines. Hardware is quite different (Intel/Nvidia desktop vs AMD APU laptop), but installed software is almost identical. Intel machine works fine, but AMD laptop exhibits this error.

Launcher version is 2.1.5965 on both machines. It was installed via the Layman overlay https://gentoo.zugaina.org/games-action/minecraft-launcher on both machines.

Icedtea 3.13.0 is used on both machines.

Hoping maybe if you can help me identify the exact difference between the two, it may help to figure out the underlying issue for most cases.
