Why not require an existing Eye of Ender inside the world for 3 SHolds to spawn? Maybe a message to tell they spawned. That way, we can let the world generate before the Holds.

Why not allow villagers to have a trade quota, you can give them a "Pay" button so the number of emeralds will go down with each pay. That way you can pay in multiple stacks if one of the slots must be occupied as well. It will only get the required items using Pay buttons. This idea resolves most of the trading problems.
Your son needs to remember the death spot so he can return to it. I once died on Minecraft PE on my iPad on my quarry world, (It was so tempting to see the death screen in PE) and returned in less than 5 mins. If you died near a cactus then poof. I threw a useless feather in that same quarry world and it vanished the second the item entity touched them. And by the way, Inventory is not kept. Die-items fall to ground 5 minutes exceeding- despawn so go get your items if you can or sleep in the game and get the items in the morning. Sleeping does not affect block update meaning if you smelt at night and go to sleep, the furnace will still burn in the morning. If you die and sleep directly, go to the items within 5 minutes= Profit.
This is not a bug. The more intelligent, updated Mob AI has not been implemented yet. It has yet to be implemented in Alpha 0.8.0.
