Same problem for me, A friend of mine had to download minecraft on his new computer but could not launch it from the new launcher, we had to give him the old launcher so that he could play with us! Me and my friend is from Norway

Uninstalled and installed the game again, it works.

@Ined I have reinstalled minecraft again, still doesnt work.

This is happening to me as well, I am Norwegian, reinstalled the game on a completly different harddrive, and nothing works. I can get the game to run by a third party launcher.
