Lenny, I think you're on to something there. I made a temporary platform so that I could stand at Y=30. The spawn rate sill didn't seem as good as 1.2.9, but the endermen were continually spawning, trying to attack the endermite and falling in the trap. I also stood at y=29 for a couple of minutes and no endermen fell down. Interesting that the spawning behavior changes with my character position.
also affects MC Better Together 1.2.13 on my Xbox One.
Blocks don't drop, ore doesn't drop, ender chests don't drop, though, fortunately for me my shulker box did drop, and a bed did drop as well. Problem occurred with tool or no tool, and also with tools enchanted or un-enchanted.
re-logging resolved the problem til I entered the nether. Then I had to re-log again.
