RESOLVED!!
My antivirus software updated requiring a computer reboot. After rebooting, the launcher runs and I can once again play.
I do not remember adding any resource packs ever. I enabled cheats when I was setting it up, but I have been using it that way for months. I was able to play fine three days ago and haven't modified anything since then.
When I select PLAY the MAJONG screen comes up and then it switches back to launcher with a GAME CRASH message.
It states unexpected issue.
I am also having problems with minecraft crashing on launch. I click PLAY, the MOJANG screen comes up and then it switches back to the launcher with this crash message.

I am experiencing the same issue. I have logged in and out 5 times. I have rebooted the computer twice. I have logged into my grandsons account. I then rebooted the computer again and still gives the same error. I logged out of all accounts and then rebooted the computer and then tried logging back in. Still cannot connect to Realms
I have also been trying to start minecraft since last night, [@ 6:00 Eastern Standard Time, United States]. Go to Launcher,hit PLAY, Loads to White Screen with MOJANG, kicks back to Launcher with error
"An unexpected issue occurred and the game has crashed. We're sorry for the inconvenience."
Same error for the last 14+ hours. I am trying to run 1.12.2. and it was working fine a few days ago. I verified my Java was up to date.
