I have been experiencing this issue recemtly on Xbox v 1.20.41.
When loading a world I often see the message Loading Appearance, followed shortly after by Appearance is taking too long to load. Proceeding with world generation. (the time between the two messages varies, sometimes just seconds between, up to 30 seconds or more)
Sometimes there is a pause in gameplay some minutes after the world loads when my skin finally loads.
I have had this issue both with classic skins and Character Creator skins. Default skins seem to load normally. I don't remember this being an issue on earlier versions.
I have experienced this same bug on my single-player world (Bedrock v 1.20.41). Occasionally I am teleported to a location other than the matched portal. At first I thought it was the eating while using a portal bug, but I definitely wasn;t eating the last few times. I'm not complaining, as the last time it put me near an undiscovered spawner.
I hadn't encountered this bug before the 1.20.41 update.
Still happens on Bedrock Xbox v 1.20.41
To check what's hapening I travelled overworld to distant portal thousands of blocks away on entering the portalI was suffocating inside netherrack
This is on Xbox One, latest Beta update 1.17.30.24. I had been in the overworld about 1 hour before deciding to travel to another rea by the nether, used an exiting portal which had been working normally before. My location on arrival seemed correct for X and y coords but height was different. There were also a number of zombie pigmen and magma slime? on the bedrock roof.
Nether roof was height 68, I was able to block down the side of a misplaced chunk to reach nettherack, everything below height 1 was void, going back to the roof, I found what appeared to be an unaffected area, shortly after entering, this disappeared, and I was again on bedrock on top of the nether, When I returned to wghere I had originally been, the missing chunk I had entered through was now in place, a few blocks I had placed on the roof to mark the site were there but the hole I had used was not. Decided at this point to leave the nether.
I went through a portal and arrived at an unexpected location, 8000 blocks from expected, and at height -40 in the nether. How can I be at height -40?
I can't move, I can't place blocks as I am apparently floating on nothing, I can see what appears to be bedrock bottom of the nether above me, an indeterminate distance - nothing to reference against.
portal should have gone to 1164, 38, 210 in nether, location is farbeyond explored known territory.
I made a copy of my world and went into creative. I can confirm that I was floating below the bedrock base of the nether.
Update: After being in creative for about 30 minutes I was teleported back to the overworld portal I left from. Was this one of the Mojang people fixed this for me? If so, thanks very much.
