0.15.10, Android 7 on an LG Nexus 5X, happening here too.
A couple other quirks I noticed about this that haven't been said: tapping anywhere in the world will cancel the drink animation. From the bucket, If you switch to a bow, the bow will draw. If you switch to an egg or stack of eggs, they will be thrown.
This is also happening in the Android version.
The issue is that they are making sounds, but they're following the normal sound proximity rules. You can't hear them unless you either crank your volume up, and even then they have to be just outside of melee striking distance.
Right now they're like creepers that can fly and set you on fire without dying. This is making trips into the Nether even for careful, seasoned veterans to search for fortresses, wart, and blaze rods a complete flip of a coin as to whether you're going to make it back without losing your materials.
I am having the same problem. The anvil still seems to work just fine to rename, repair, or modify other items, but will crash without fail when trying to rename any map - for example, I was able to repair and rename my bow enchanted with Unbreaking I and Power I.
