Yes, I am breeding them in the Extreme Hills biome. This biome produces naturally spawned taiga-variant zombie villagers and will produce taiga-variant villagers using creative-mode spawn eggs, but villagers bred inside this biome only create plains villagers.
Sorry for the delay. After I submitted this bug report, I realized there were a few other existing reports that specifically said it was black dye from wandering traders that could not be crafted into black dye, so I assumed this report would just end up getting marked as another duplicate and closed.
Yes, my problem was that black dye could not be crafted from ink sacs bought from wandering traders. Ink sacs obtained from squids in the ocean can be crafted into black dye. Also, as others have reported, ink sacs bought from wandering traders are not stackable with ink sacs obtained from squids, nor are they stackable with ink sacs purchased from wandering traders in separate transactions.
Another observation is that ink sacs purchased from wandering traders can only be used as a crafting ingredient for directly making black beds, black shulker boxes, and black firework stars. They cannot be used as an ingredient for other recipes requiring ink sacs or black ink, such as book-and-quills, black stained glass, or dark prismarine.
These issues still affect the current version of Bedrock.
