Its behavior is like ender pearls, but i think its a glitch because it happened in me too

I think it is because of lag issues

This following is marked as "Known Issues" in Minecraft 1.16.220 release, meaning that they are working on it to fix

Fixed as of 1.16.220 release, update your version please
