I am getting the same issue. I updated my graphics driver (ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3400) but I am still unable to start the game. Minecraft was running fine before the upgrade from Vista to Windows 8. I have also gone into device manager and into display adapters to check that that is correct and it is. Is there anything else I can try?
