Please re-open this, it is a bug with the launcher and has nothing to do with the content of the Alpha versions.
The issue is simply that the launcher contains a duplicate version, mislabelled as if it is another version, when it isn't (The version labelled 'a1.2.1' in the launcher, is in fact just a duplicate of the version 'a1.2.1_01') This can be proven simply by comparing the hashes of the two jar files showing they are identical, and the fix is simply to remove the offending so called 'a1.2.1' from the version list, as it is not actually present and is a duplicate of another version, this isn't a difficult fix.
Please let me stress again, this fix is not impacted by the Alpha versions no longer being supported, and really has nothing to do with the Alpha versions at all, the bug is within the launcher and the assets page.
