My friend and I also indeed had this problem. We tried everything we could and as you said, I could see her characters but not move, hurt or make her fall. We were both in the end when she tried to join. We tried everything we could to get her in. But then I remembered she was able to join when she was still in the end and I was in the actual world. I exited out of the end and was back into the 'real' world and she tried joining and it let her in. So if you are still having the problem. It seems like it is your friend that is hosting the world, have her go to the 'real' world and you try entering. It should let you in and if it doesn't work then I'm sorry that is the only solution that I know of.
