This issue is happening for me again today. In the past I had to uninstall the game (sometimes several times) and reinstall to get the game to load properly.
PS4: standard launch version (current system software 7.55)
Minecraft: digital version (2.12 according to info screen)(1.16.40 inside minecraft) only plastic texture pack add-on is installed
Issue: hangs on the mojang studios screen,
L1 + R1 + L2 + R2 + OPTIONS + Touch Pad button combination is ineffective
leaving it to load for over 10 minutes is ineffective
restarting ps4, then starting minecraft is ineffective
rebuilding database is ineffective
In this case in order to get minecraft working I had to:
uninstall minecraft
reinstall minecraft
started minecraft (froze on mojang screen using no button combination)
closed application(minecraft), started minecraft and quickly held button combination and held for about 5 minutes before minecraft screen finally appeared
Same thing happened to me. How do you turn it back into a functional zip file though? I added the .zip manually but it gives me a warning that the file is damaged or cannot be read.

This is not a viable long term solution.
