This is also affecting me. Me and my partner play on a private home server and have had numerous issues including so far:
Furnace, blast furnace and smokers initially working for a short period of time but then failing to work after a varying period of gameplay. These sometimes work again if I close the server and re-open it, however a reload does not have the same effect.
I have had maps on item frames that have disappeared entirely and as above, only reappearing once the server had been closed and re-opened. I was even able to destroy the block holding the 'invisible' map and item frame, and re-place it without the 3 items being dropped, just the one block holding it all there. This didn't seem to affect the items when i closed and re-opened the server.
Outside of server play which is my main format, I have also experienced some issues single player including:
Issues destroying chests.
Issues placing chests near previous location it was destroyed from.
Issues with beds. I had a bed and a chest that I moved near to where they were destroyed, and the game decided to create a hybrid item for me of a chest-bed (top half of the bed and the bottom half was a complete chest). When i tried to interact, the whole game crashed and I had to re-open. This seemed to fix the error and when re-opened, the bed was back and fully functional.

I hope you manage to get your team back together - I am having similar issues without the same level of attachment as I tend to focus more on building, but I find that closing the game entirely and then re-opening can help for the time being until they are able to get this issue sorted. It seems to also be affecting any sort of furnace as well as item frames and pictures, but again, a complete re-start of the game can help with this, but not always which is odd...
