I can confirm that while my Samsung SII (Model SPH-D710) with Android 4.0.4 it started loading MCPE at version 0.16.2 again but took approximately 1 minute and 20 seconds to load the screen. Now, I just installed version 1.0.6 and with version 1.0.6 that start time is down to 47 seconds.

Good Job!

Wow also! I can confirm that while my Samsung SII (Model SPH-D710) started loading MCPE at version 0.16.2 again but took approximately 1 minute and 20 seconds to load the screen. Now, with version 1.0.6 that start time is down to 47 seconds.

Good Job!

My Samsung S2 acts interesting now. Let summarize below:
Android: 4.0.4
Mode: Online/Offline (both)
Last Working Version: 0.14.3
Broken Versions: 0.15 - 0.16.1
Current Version: 0.16.2

After updating to 0.16.2 from the Google Playstore, it has started all but 2 times (so far). These times the screen was black for a while but dropped me back to the Android screen from which the Minecraft icon was touched. I touched it again and it loaded following the times listed below.

It loads with the device held in landscape or portrait oriented position.

In either orientation, touching the Minecraft icon it takes approximately 1 minute, 12-25 seconds with purely a black screen but finally loads. It plays and generates worlds just fine.

Clicking the Exit on the Exit Minecraft Diaglog box does not seem to stop the game from running, just merely drops the device back to the screen in which Minecraft was loaded from. Task Manager still shows it running even after several minutes. A force kill is required to actually stop the app from running.

My Samsung SII has 0.15 now. My point was I finally got it to work with 0.14 and then upgraded to 0.15 and now I'm experiencing these issues as well. Please don't dismiss my comments about .13 and .14 as irrelevant as I was merely giving my background on this. I've tried the items listed in this bug, 8332 and another (yes, there are others regarding this same issue and other "black screen issues") and nothing has worked. The one thing that's different than 0.13 and 0.14 for me is now it will drop me back to the Android screen sometimes - usually generating an uploadable crash report.

As it stands, I will NOT upgrade my Samsung Tab 2 (Android 4.0.4) to 0.15 as I know it's likely to break as well now.

I've tried all these methods - except for a factory reset on my Samsung SII which my daughter used to play. I started having issues and posted on MCPE-8332 back I believe with the 13 version. Updated to 14 with no success. One day my 5y old managed to boot the phone in Safe Mode and 14 started working and worked for a while. Then my daughter wanted the 15 version and now I have the same problem posted here and in 8332. Sometimes it crashes and sends a report after sitting at a black screen upon initial start for a while, others it just sits there at the black screen forever using CPU cycles (as shown by another app). Gets the phone hot and drains the battery.

I wish they would get this working again for Android 4.0.4 as that is all my daughter has and she has been upset since she used her own money to purchase this.

My son managed to boot our old Samsung SII phone (Android 4.0.4) into Safe Mode accidentally and Minecraft version 0.14.3 appears to no longer get the Blackscreen on startup. Not sure if this helps anyone or if anyone else can confirm or had this same success.

My Samsung SII still gets a Blackscreen.

For me on my Samsung SII - yes, it still starts with a black screen, high CPU and never progresses further. My last communication with Sheri is still still experiences the issue as well.

Using the latest 0.12.1 hangs. Previous version (prior to yesterday's release (9/9/2015) worked fine.

Symptoms: Starts, switches to black screen and progresses no further. Have to use <Home> button to break out and Task Manager shows excessive CPU usages ( > 50%)

Model: Samsung S II
Android version: 4.0.4
