@rob. Does the XBox One version no longer work for you? The "Better Together" version is unusable for me because it won't convert the games (the business of not being able to deactivate autosave would also be a dealbreaker, but I just haven't got that far). I too have been playing for some years, and the game without my game in it is like an empty shop; completely useless. However, I found my copy of the XBox One version (and it's saved games) is still there and can still be played independently. So, until they get their act together and do some serious quality control and bug-fixing on what seems to be an even shoddier version of Minecraft, that's where I'll stay.
If I was the Microsoft Manager trying to promote this "Better Together" thing, I'd be spitting tacks right now. It's been turned in unfinished. Smells like the product of an Agile shop.
