Yes! We're seeing the same thing with a couple of iPad 2s. Start a game on one, join with the other.
Often you'll something selected, say a grass block, and put down a few, then it will change to something else - like a jack-o-lantern - even when the original block is still selected.
It's really strange. We were trying to lay down rails and got torches - but rails were selected.
