I'm having something like this happen on my PC. I bought the game about 3 weeks ago, and from the beginning I haven't been able to eat, use potions, use a stonecutter, or use a bow/ crossbow. I have "Use Object" set to Right-Click, and it works for placing blocks and using all blocks/items except those listed above. I generally play on servers, but having to /suicide when my hunger gets low is really annoying! I still have the same problems on my non-server worlds. I have no mods.
