Almost the same for me, I placed torches in 1.4.2 (official release) and those bug out and fly around. It only happens with the 1.4.2 torches, not with 1.3.X or earlier releases.
I skipped 1.4.3, so no results for that situation Definatly a duplicate of MC-2497, the effects and problem are the same. This issue can be closed as duplicate
