Foxes take fall damage whenever they fall on top of a sweet berry bush from 1+ block high. There is a way to work around this such as, leaving a 1 block space between the sweet berry bush and neighboring blocks until this is fixed. 

I was so sad when my foxes kept dying from this. In a small space, the foxes take fall damage from falling on top of the sweet berry bushes, then they would keep panicking and eventually die from repeatedly falling on top of the sweet berry bushes.

So if you are experiencing this issue, I suggest giving your foxes plenty of space to roam and avoid placing any blocks, too close, near sweet berry bushes.

Are you sure that your fishing rod does not have the enchantment Mending I on it? Are you wearing armor that has the enchantment Mending I? Does the person fishing with you has Mending I on anything of their equipment? When experience orbs drop, they are not always guaranteed to go directly to you. Anyone in the general vicinity of where the orbs drop can pick them up, even if you were the one who killed the mobs, bred the animals, etc. If you or your friend has the enchantment Mending I [https://minecraft.gamepedia.com/Mending] on your equipment (*main hand, offhand, armor slots), the experience orbs repair the equipment first* and then the left over experience fills the bar. So you might want to explore those as possibilities. 

To test this possibility, you and your friend should fish with:

• a normal fishing rod

• nothing else equipped in your offhand (or nothing in your inventory to be extra sure)

• no armor or armor with no enchanments
