It's called BUD-power and as far as I know it will stay in the Java edition because of its usefulness for the redstone community.
Maybe because it would fit in multiple tabs...

I don't know if it is for the same reason, since in my design I think they should not update each other at all...
I managed to get entities that were standing on top of a shulker box stuck inside it by giving for example a zombie a 2 high space, collapsing it to 1.5m by opening the box and with the chest open, pushing the zombie down using a piston.
The zombie was unable to move below the pistonhead. Even if I gave him a target he did not do anything until I removed the piston.
This allowed the zombie to free itself by getting displaced as described in your report.
