Hi!

(Before reading please note I am not a mojang employee, I just happen to have messed with a lot of minecraft files so please proceed with caution! haha)I also had a very similar issue, which gave the same error message and it ended up being an issue about my storage being full. I have also seen some comments on other sites about an internet server being down, but I don't imagine that is it. If you are wondering, all saves are in the save folder in the .minecraft folder. This can be accessed by pressing Windows Key+R, and typing %appdata%. Hit enter and you should see your .minecraft folder, hopefully the saves should be in the save folder! If not, maybe check recycling bin. As for fixing your issue, try to navigate to the file that has the issue (C:\Users\STEVE\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft\assets\indexes\1.14.json). From here, I would just hit Ctrl+F on the notepad document and search for " 5266701e794a3cfb26c8052800c1bca81ef0ab5c" then just replace it with "c3f2bebb4a5fd3f2f3ee0783efa46bf23089c218" (MAKE SURE TO SAVE THE ORIGINAL FILE JUST INCASE 🙂 ). The beginning of my 1.14.json file looks like this:

{"objects": {"icons/icon_16x16.png": {"hash": " etc.

I would also ask your son if he did edit files, because if so, for sure try the above method. If not, and the above method doesn't work either, I would copy the .minecraft save folder and place it somewhere else, such as the desktop, and then completely delete the .minecraft folder and then re-install it. Also, mods are a great way to have fun if your son gets bored with normal minecraft! It could be a great project to do with him and it can be quite easy (Try looking up "Feed the Beast" if interested)
