I am still having this problem as well on survival mode in my personal realm. Version 0.16.2 Samsung Note 4. I have not been able to replicate where the map resizes and recenters to spawn. It seems to me that it simply resizes and clear the map completely.

I am having the same issue. I create a map and it works fine until I add the 8 sheets of paper to it. Once the 8 sheets are added the map becomes blank. I am playing Minecraft PE v0.16.2
