Windows 8/8.1 (at least for me) is also affected by this, considering the newest snapshot is also the only thing that works for me I'm guessing I'm having the same exact issue. I don't know what orphaned objects are but just in case: whenever I reopen Mc after using the latest snapshot a lot of orphaned objects are cleaned up according to the logs(after attempting to launch another version, I attempted this with 1.8.9), they also state that the .jar of the snapshot can't be found or something along those lines, I can't access my pc at the moment so I can't paste the full log. Finally the snapshot doesn't actually make any sounds even though Mc is in the volume mixer. Though that part is probably just a separate bug, not sure. Edit: in case this helps: the orphaned objects are just lines of letters and numbers, again, I have no knowledge of orphaned objects so I'm just saying this in case this helps.
