that happened to me twice. Once in 0.12.1 and another in 0.8.1. In 0.8.1, I couldn't take my mode back to Survival unless I used PocketInvEditor, which enabled me to fly in survival, give myself infinite health, and then I discovered Blocklauncher, which helped me change skins. If the bug happened before 0.12.0 for you, it would change everything about MCPE.
