I had same issue with crafting in Survival mode Bedrock in my Realm. Crafted Paper (lost most of it), Had some paper lying around so tried making some books with those, lost the books.

Same. Haven't been able to play the new update because the skins won't load (Bedrock played on Xbox Console).
