Seems to be resolved, -ish. For now, spectator is working as intended on the seed shown in the screenshot. Unfortunately, the other worlds I played on are still putting me in the void, so I can't see any of the progress I've made. Thanks for the help! I'll be sure to update this issue if it comes up again.
The issue seems to have resolved itself on my end, although after being put into spectator mode, I can still fly to the completely void area where I was immediately spawned before. The bug I mentioned also happened on different seeds.
I won't be able to upload a video due to size constraints. What happened was: I spawned in normally upon death while playing on a copy of the original world. I was still able to fly to the completely void area while in spectator mode. However, if I play one of the worlds that the bug occurred on, I'm still placed in the void, outside of any terrain or anything.
Will do. I'll also include a video of the process if I can. I do know all the deaths were mob deaths, if that's relevant.
I only attempted to use commands after I had already been placed in the void. The commands I tried to use were:
/gamemode spectator
/tp [ X Y Z]
