No wonder this wasn't a priority. We only get frustrated because we love you Mojang.

This bug is super annoying and makes it pointless to bother interacting with villages. Why is still not even assigned while all kinds of trivial bugs are being fixed with every update? I /had/ been building an empire of villages across an entire continent, so it's not even worth playing until this is resolved.
