This happened to me as well (playing on the same snapshot), and also caused an unrelated creeper and an unrelated skeleton which had spawned a little ways away to become frozen/unresponsive, despite the fact that I hadn't interacted with either of them at all. The skeleton is still doing its idle animation, the creeper which "started" the issue appears to be halfway through its "exploding" animation, and I can place blocks "in" all three of them.
Also may be worth noting that the first creeper almost killed me, then I died due to fall damage immediately afterwards. Like, IMMEDIATELY.
