It's not reproducable but occurs very often in random places at random times. Quitting and reentering always fixed it for me. In my case it's not related to watching direction, I can go around the glitch, but when I try to walk/ride/swim into it, I get stuck, and have to quit/reenter.

If you place a map into off-hand AND select another map in your other hand, the minimap will be shown. However this issue is really annoying, I hope there will be a fix soon.
