This clearly needs to be fixed. The amount of experience (XP) gained from smelting cactus is disproportionately high, and it's almost certainly an unintended bug. Furthermore, this should be corrected for parity with Minecraft Bedrock Edition.
Had same problem until I used my email address instead of user id to switch user.
