Ok, Anthony I just got off an hour long–but productive!–phone call with Microsoft and here's what they told me:

There was basically an undetectable verification error that was minor enough to let me log in everytime, but not so minor that I could stay logged in.  Here is what I did to fix it.

-on my computer/laptop (not my mobile phone) go to account.microsoft.com

-log in

-go to the security tab at the top of the homepage

-you may have a "verify your account with a text msg code" to get to the security page

-once you're on the security page it might say something like "do you want to use the following info to help you access your account if you get locked out?" and there will be an email or a phone number that you set as your backup contact with a checkmark next to it.  And there will be a button that says "verify method/backup/contact.

-in my case the error was I had entered an email address and it was checkmarked as my contact method...but I somehow never clicked the "verify/confirmation" button?  Once I clicked that button the screen refreshed to show the regular list of security settings and options to change/remove them.

 

Cut back to my Switch.  I closed the game currently running (sorry, son!) and powered off the system.  I restarted it and opened Minecraft.  The same error was present.  I went to settings and hit the sign in button and it brought up the code to activate the account.  I did so–again on my laptop, not my phone–and logged in no problem.  Then I opened a world and ran around for a few seconds and then saved and closed the game.  I opened the game again and I was logged in still!  I closed the game and powered off the system, then restarted and opened the game...and I was still logged in! Yay!  So I hope maybe there is a similar fix for you 😉  Good luck!

 

Likewise I have both reset and powered down my switch,  I have used  the switch system settings to check for corrupt data, delete and reinstall the game, and delete the saved data.  This issue has been ongoing for months and I just kept hoping the next patch would solve the issue.

I am experiencing the same issue.  In addition I am receiving an error message that pops up before the "Save purchases to Microsoft Account" message. (I have attached screenshots of marketplace error and help screen error).  After returning to the "previous page" following the help screen error my issues follow the pattern laid out by the reporter, Anthony.

I am having the same issue (among others).
