I was able to solve this by re-installing java with this: https://www.azul.com/downloads/?version=java-17-lts&os=windows&architecture=x86-64-bit&package=jre#zulu
I first tried updating it via homebrew, but that didn't resolve the issue. Only this seemed to work.
EDIT: maybe this didn't actually resolve it. Seems it's been resolved for others with no change.
