It was an LAN. There have been a lot of issues with water in general, this is just the greatest example. It’s taken a very long time for water to spawn/become visible, so you can see the entire ocean floor without water and occasionally into the ground, even though the game still acts as if the water is there. I have screenshots of this as well.

I was on an IPad, and the person I was playing with was on PC. They also experienced the same issue.
