Are you playing single player or multiplayer? If you're playing on single player WiFi should not be a factor in the game crashing. Have you tried restarting the game or your device? Is your device updated? Are you running the game on a older device?
Game crashes could be caused by a variety of problems. I would try restarting the game and your device and if that doesn't work update your device if possible.
Can confirm. Just tried this for myself the paintings have no texture but can be destroyed after being placed.
